There is currently a petition open on the U.S. Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act’s (FATCA) alleged infringement of EU rights and the extraterritorial effects of U.S. laws in the EU.

The petition concerns the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) - as well as the intergovernmental agreements implementing it in the EU – which obliges European and other foreign financial institutions to report to the U.S. tax authorities all holdings of their “U.S. persons” customers. The petition argues that this law violates various fundamental principles of European law (including the right to respect for private and family life, the prohibition of discrimination and data privacy,) as well as the Payment Accounts Directive.

The petition's current status is "available to supporters." There is no published deadline, however EU Parliament Petitions reserves the right to close a petition at any time during the procedure.

Note that the confidentiality of the signer's information is guaranteed by the EU Parliament Petitions, so signers of this petition remain anonymous.
